Gene Kwon Raises Awareness About Growing Disconnect as AI Reshapes Workplace Relationships

Salt Lake City entrepreneur Gene Kwon believes curiosity, meaningful conversations, and exposure to new perspectives are becoming more important as technology changes how people work, communicate, and learn.

Artificial intelligence can answer questions, generate ideas, and provide information in seconds. According to entrepreneur and business leader Gene Kwon, that convenience may come with an unintended consequence.

As professionals increasingly rely on technology to communicate, research, and solve problems, Kwon believes many are becoming less exposed to new perspectives and fewer meaningful professional relationships are developing naturally.

“We have access to more information than ever before,” says Kwon. “The challenge isn’t finding answers anymore. The challenge is asking better questions.”

Kwon is raising awareness about what he sees as a growing disconnect in professional relationships. While technology has made information easier to access, he believes it has also made it easier for people to remain within familiar circles and engage with the same viewpoints repeatedly.

According to Gallup’s 2026 State of the Global Workplace report, global employee engagement fell to 20% in 2025, its lowest level since 2020. Kwon believes meaningful relationships, curiosity, and exposure to new perspectives play an important role in helping people stay engaged, adaptable, and connected in a rapidly changing workplace.

Throughout his career, Kwon has helped build successful companies and earned recognition as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Looking back, he says many of the opportunities that shaped his career did not begin with a business plan. They began with conversations.

“One conversation can completely change your perspective,” says Kwon. “You never know where a good relationship might lead.”

Curiosity Matters More Than Ever

Kwon believes there is an important difference between information and perspective. While technology can provide answers quickly, many of the insights that shape careers, businesses, and personal growth still come through human interaction.

“I think ambition is overrated,” he says. “Ambition is useful because it gives you direction, but curiosity is what keeps you growing. Curious people ask questions, challenge assumptions, and stay open to new ideas.”

He believes curiosity helps people adapt to changing industries, evolving customer expectations, and new technologies. Rather than focusing on having all the answers, Kwon encourages professionals to remain open to learning from others.

“The more perspectives you’re exposed to, the more opportunities you see,” says Kwon. “Some of the most important lessons in my career came from conversations I wasn’t expecting to have.”

As technology continues to reshape the workplace, Kwon believes curiosity, adaptability, and meaningful relationships will remain essential.

“Technology can help us work faster,” says Kwon. “But relationships help us grow. Some of the best opportunities in life don’t announce themselves. They often begin with a conversation that seems ordinary at the time.”
