TeraOpenScience, the open-innovation platform accelerating real-world scientific and technological breakthroughs, today announced the launch of its global contest, Idea • Innovation • Business: A Science Challenge. The competition invites students and early-career researchers to lead one of the platform’s featured technologies, build a multidisciplinary team, and propose a full innovation and commercialization plan to bring the solution to industry.
Designed to bridge scientific creativity with practical business execution, the contest challenges participants to move beyond ideation and deliver a complete roadmap, from R&D strategy and supply-chain design to field testing and long-term business modeling.
Contest Structure & Timeline
Participants select a technology hosted on TeraOpenScience and propose an innovative application. They must build a team, collaborate on the platform, and submit a detailed project plan outlining technical milestones, development strategy, testing pathways, and a commercialization blueprint.
- Submission Deadline: October 31, 2026
- Top 5 Teams: Awarded execution grants of up to $7,500 to carry out their proposed plans
- Execution Phase: December 2026 – April 2027
- Commercialization Reward: If a project is sold to industry, 75% of proceeds go to the student team, with 25% supporting future TeraOpenScience programs

The challenge is open globally, with no limit on team size. All proposals must be submitted through the PROJECT section of the TeraOpenScience platform.
