ADDISON, Texas, April 2026 — The Medicus Firm, a national healthcare recruitment company, released two new 2026 reports designed to help healthcare organizations better understand the trends shaping provider recruitment and retention: the 2026 National Physician & Healthcare Provider Preference & Insights Survey and the 2026 Compensation and Placement Summary.
Together, the reports provide healthcare employers with timely, data-driven insight into the challenges and opportunities influencing physician and advanced practice clinician (APC) recruitment in today’s competitive labor market.
The 2026 National Physician & Healthcare Provider Preference & Insights Survey explores the evolving priorities, expectations, and behaviors shaping today’s healthcare workforce. As Tim Ketterman, SVP of Recruiting at The Medicus Firm, noted, today’s provider market is being driven “as much by external forces as internal opportunity.” The report examines how physicians and APCs evaluate opportunities through factors such as workload, burnout, flexibility, workplace culture, benefits, and long-term fit. Among the findings, 48.2% of physicians and 62.4% of APCs reported being likely or open to changing roles within the next 12 months, underscoring continued workforce mobility.
The 2026 Compensation and Placement Summary analyzes physician and APC placements completed by The Medicus Firm in 2025 to provide actionable benchmarks for compensation, placement activity, and hiring strategy. Evan Reece, SVP of Recruiting at The Medicus Firm, described today’s environment as “a market defined by scarcity and intense competition,” where organizations must stand out through flexibility, urgency, and authenticity. The report highlights trends by specialty, region, practice setting, and community size. It also found that primary care represented 31.5% of all placements in 2025, reinforcing the continued importance of access-driven specialties in workforce planning.
“Today’s provider market is more competitive and complex than ever—organizations that leverage real-time compensation and workforce trends will be the ones that win in both recruiting and retention,” said Michael Messier, SVP of Business Development at The Medicus Firm.
